Joyland is committed to improving the lives of children and young people in the Philippines through providing education, vocational training and small business opportunities for young people. Joyland also seeks to build the capacity of the local community in order to strengthen and reunite families and allow vulnerable children to be cared for within the community.
Joyland supports young people like Erwin and his younger sister. With the support and encouragement of the Joyland staff, Erwin, who is now 21 years old is working towards independence and taking on the full time care of his younger sister. Erwin is about to graduate from university after studying Computer Engineering and wants to become a businessman. Even though he is only 21 he has already started two businesses including a phone credit loading and tricycle business. He currently owns 5 tricycles and has plans to expand the business to include another 5 tricycles. Once he graduates and has a secure income, Erwin plans to move into a home of his own with his 10-year-old sister.
The project will provide support to kinship carers like Erwin to help them be able to take on this responsibility. Erwin and his sister are looking forward to a bright future together as a family and Erwin is already dreaming about the day when he is able to fully support his sister through university. Erwin also plans to start businesses in the community he is from and help strengthen his whole family and community.
